ABOUT THE SERIES

Books 1–20: Black Crystal Battlers is a typical superhero/war story about a group of seven teenage African-American kids named Deyon, Maurice, J.J., Keese, Aaron, Shauna, and Diahandra, who, at different times, get sucked into the past by a vortex while exploring an abandoned museum. After landing in the year 1785, they’re given the power to turn into a team of superheroes by an English sorceress named Oriana. Their goal is to banish all evils from the world and preserve the freedom of African-Americans in the future. To do this, they must battle the evil forces of Oriana’s twin sister, Evilla.

Books 21–40: After the war with Evilla ends, and the Battlers add Jon to their team, the Battlers meet a new enemy: new-in-town businessman Liam DiCapa. His goal is to reduce the Caucasian race just enough for African-Americans to dominate the nation and, later, the world. A secret agency called UNITY (Union of Negroes Inconveniencing Tyranny for the Youth) has formed an alliance with them to help them defeat DiCapa. So now, they’re superheroes and secret agents!

Book 41–present: With DiCapa defeated, J.J. and Keese gone, and newcomers Richard and Jay in their places, the eight Battlers must now face off against a familiar evil. Chief Manhunter has stolen and swallowed a powerful jewel called the Stone of Absor, and he plans to use it to gain the ultimate power — the powers of the Battlers. But to do that, he must achieve his long-time goal of eating them alive. But if all eight Battlers can go through the Crystal Advance, then Chief Manhunter should be easy to defeat.  Right?

The series is for children in late elementary school (Grades 4, 5, and 6), middle school, and high school.
