Character Summary

Manchomper, the mutant Canadian beaver, is the hungriest member of the Mutant Guerrillas. He set his sights on devouring the Battlers from the moment he laid eyes on them in Book 1. Of course, the Battler he covets the most is J.J. Rountree, the White Battler. On many occasions, he’s successfully swallowed him, but J.J.’s escaped each time.

Manchomper was the first one of the eight Mutant Guerrillas to get his own story. In Book 4, he was the main antagonist as he devoured all the other Battlers as part of a prophecy J.J. had that was coming true. But Manchomper was literally blown open when J.J. and the others used their Battler Growth powers to increase their size and burst out of his body. Unfortunately, he was magically able to repair the damage.

Manchomper’s hunger drives him to eating almost every type of meat there is. This was learned by Maurice, Aaron, and Shauna in Book 10, when they heard that he’d messily devoured fourteen out of fifteen slave children Hurtle kidnapped.

Manchomper once had to cooperate with J.J. in Book 18, when they were being chased by the evil Predator. They even ended up bonding with each other (something J.J. regrets) as they hid from him. Manchomper finally revealed to J.J. why he always kept trying to eat him — he was angry at humankind for hunting and killing beavers for food in the past, so he wanted to take out his anger on J.J. When Predator was finally defeated, they decided to resume their relationship as enemies.

Manchomper and the other Mutant Guerrillas returned to the scene after a long time away in Super Battlers 4. He and the other mutants were hiding out in Magicia to get stronger under the instruction of an unnamed teacher. They nearly defeated the Battlers in a deadly battle (with Manchomper eating J.J., as usual), but thanks to Deyon’s newly-attained Battler Emerald, they were defeated instead.

Manchomper struck the other mutants a terrible blow when news of J.J., whom he’d kidnapped and once again tried to devour the previous night, leaving town — and the Battlers — drove him to follow him out of town to continue his pursuit of his dreams of one day eating him. He snuck aboard the plane J.J. and the also-departing Marcquise “Keese” Eazel had boarded and hid in the cargo hold, dreaming up many new confections to make out of J.J.

Meanwhile, Hurtle helped the other mutants pick up the pieces by having Owlina find a replacement animal to use a Mutant Creation Spell on. They used it on a normal raccoon and created Coonskin, who’d take over for Manchomper. Hurtle, proud of their new creation, was sure they’d defeat the Battlers with no problems.

Manchomper’s sharp teeth enable him to tear the flesh off any enemy who attacks him. He lives to eat, but he lives to be bad, too. Hence the nickname he gave himself: the Beaver of Badness. Even if he is not with the Mutant Guerrillas anymore, he will still not rest until J.J. has been devoured and is finally digesting in the pit of his stomach. And he left town with J.J., hoping against hope that that’d finally happen, if only in Los Angeles. His departure was finally learned by the Battlers in Book 43.
