Character Summary

Quatic Ugong first arrived on the scene in Book 38, when Shauna Davidson, Diahandra Christian, Derrick Christian, Jamal O’Connor, and Felicia Hooper arrived in Los Angeles. While Shauna was relaxing on a beach, he approached her, even played ball with her for a minute, and finally snatched her up in his jaws and kidnapped her. While trying to escape to his underwater cave with her, Jamal, her boyfriend, gave chase in an attempt to rescue her. However, Quatic defeated Jamal in a brief underwater battle and still managed to get Shauna to his underwater cave.

 

After having Shauna tied up by his seal army, Quatic shocked Shauna with his ability to talk. He then told her his story. As a young elephant seal, he’d been swimming one day when he noticed a shiny stone. He was curious as to what it was and, thinking it was food, swallowed it. As a result, he received a terrific ability — the ability to absorb the magic of any mage he swallows. He’d already racked up sixteen magic elements — Earth, underground, water, mountain, wind, fire, forest, destruction, revival, solar, lunar, shadow, light, curative, poison, and celestial. And now, he wanted to add ice to his arsenal. And the only way to do that was to eat Shauna.

 

Shauna did everything she could to resist, but after Quatic went out and took care of another attempt by Jamal to rescue Shauna by capturing him, and then threatening to eat him, she changed her mind and surrendered. Quatic then gleefully had his meal, eating Shauna alive and whole. But just as he was about to enjoy absorbing her magic and digesting her soon after that, Jamal broke a blue gem on his belly that represented Shauna and effectively freed her from Quatic.

 

Quatic was just about to reclaim his dinner when Shauna used her ice magic to freeze a bunch of Quatic’s seal cohorts. And she threatened to break the ice — and the seals with it — unless he let them go free. With no other choice, Quatic let the two of them go, along with his chance to finally be able to use ice magic. But who says he won’t take another whack at it down the line? . . .
