Character Summary
Susan was the wife of new-in-town
businessman/crime boss Liam
DiCapa. She arrived in town in
Book 21. She wasn’t seen until she caught Jon
Crawley and Jeri Wilkes
sneaking up on her husband, preparing to kill him. She was the only one in the
DiCapa family who knew about her husband’s true ambitions — and she totally
supported them. Her kids, Desmond, Vivian, and Philip,
didn’t know about her husband’s plan until near the end. . . .
Susan finally had her first big story in Book 31.
She was sent to Seattle
to kill a Senator, who was recovering in the hospital, on her husband’s orders.
However, she met with resistance from not only Andre
Rice and Jeri,
but also from Blue and Purple Battlers Shauna Davidson and Diahandra Christian and
their friend, Felicia
Hooper. Their friend, Jamal
O’Connor, was also recovering in the hospital. This surprised Susan to learn that there were more Battlers than she
and her husband had originally thought. (They originally thought that there
were six of them.) But still, she fought Shauna,
Diahandra, and Felicia at a bus
station and defeated them. She had them tied to seats and left a bomb behind to
blow them up. Much to her dismay, the trio of girls escaped and made it to the
hospital in time to help Andre and Jeri save the Senator and defeat Susan and her several henchmen.
In Book 32, she
caught Deyon spying on Liam, who was
grilling Kesse about the Battlers’ identities while he was under the influence
of a truth serum meant for kidnapped UNITY agents Richard
Montgomery and Jay Dixon.
In Book 33, she appeared long enough to hear the news of Vivian
being pregnant by Silver Battler Maurice, which infuriated both her and her
husband.
In Book 36, she
appeared to taunt the Battlers that they’d arrived at the DiCapa mansion too
late to save J.J., who’d been locked
in her husband’s panic room. She was found there, instead, munching on an
apple. After accidentally revealing a secret Shauna
and Diahandra were keeping from the other Battlers — the secret that they’d met
her before — she was forced by Deyon to tell them where J.J.
had been taken. She informed them that he was now on the DiCapa yacht, which
was afloat in the Woodbridge
Harbor. The Battlers let
her live and, after finding J.J.’s Battler Crystal, which had been confiscated
from him after DiCapa kidnapped him, headed off to find him. But Susan called her husband ahead of time, alerted him
to the emergency, and Albert
Labinnac, DiCapa’s top flunky,
sailed the yacht out to sea just before they got there.
In Book 40, Susan, Philip,
and Vivian were all in attendance for
the big reveal of the Black Crystal Battlers’ true identities on the roof of
the DiCapa Enterprises Office
Building. DiCapa was
going to reveal them himself after kidnapping and bringing five of them — Maurice, Aaron,
Jon, Shauna,
and Diahandra — to the building. She also watched DiCapa capture J.J. and Kesse when they got there with Deyon to save
their friends. She got the bigger pleasure of watching the final fight break
out between her husband and Deyon. She was the only person (aside from her son
and the guards) rooting for Liam’s
victory. It seemed imminent when, after Deyon’s Battler Crystal powered down on
him, Liam shot him eight times. But
Deyon came right back with a Crystal
Advance, which transformed his
Battler Crystal into a Battler Emerald. Then, Deyon was easily able to defeat Liam.
Everything changed
for the DiCapas, however, when Deyon was about to strike a fatal blow to DiCapa
that Susan, out of loyalty to her
husband, knew she couldn’t let hit him. So she jumped in the way and took the
blow instead. Deyon’s sword sliced deep into her neck, and she lost so much
blood in one fell swoop that, after gagging and suffering a painful inability
to breathe, she fell backward into her husband’s arms and died in them. Her
husband would die a few minutes after her when the truth about him finally came
out and he made a last-ditch attempt to unmask Deyon that would send him
stumbling him over the edge of his own office building.
Unfortunately, Susan
and Liam both died without ever getting to meet their grandson, Maurice “Maury”
Eazel IV, who was born to Maurice and Vivian on Halloween, just several months
after their deaths.
