Character Summary

Vivian DiCapa is the sweet, innocent daughter of Liam DiCapa, Alexandria’s new businessman. The only Battlers who actually interacted with her the first time she appeared were Keese and Jon, when they went to investigate the DiCapa mansion in Book 21. She’s nothing like any of the other DiCapas. She’s gentle, beautiful, and alluring. So alluring, in fact, that Maurice Eazel hooked up with her in Book 25 after they were kidnapped by Dan Simmons, a homeless-man-turned-werewolf, and escaped his boss, Fenrir Lupus, the leader of the Clan of the Cave Wolves. The young girl enjoys her steady relationship with Maurice and originally knew that he, Keese, and Jon are three of the eight existing Black Crystal Battlers. She discovered this when Fenrir accidentally revealed Maurice’s identity before devouring him alive. Although she wanted to learn the identities of the remaining five (Deyon, J.J., Aaron, Shauna, and Diahandra), she was willing to wait to find out. She promised to keep mum about the identities she did know, however.

In Book 27, she was inadvertently pulled into Keese’s conflict with Chief Manhunter and Predator. She and Keese were chased all around town by the Deadly Duo (their name for themselves), who aimed to make them into their Thanksgiving feast. They were eventually captured and taken to the Killer Beavers’ village, where they’d be eaten. But the Battlers saved them just in time, just after she learned from Predator (by accident) that J.J. was the White Battler! The next day, after it was over, Vivian thanked Keese with a kiss that Maurice saw. Angrily, he broke up with her and practically excised Keese from his life.

But all was made right again between them in Book 28. Vivian reunited with Maurice after much convincing from Deyon, Keese, and Jon, and Maurice started speaking to Keese again. But then, they were all kidnapped by Goril Primus, DiCapa’s new killing machine, who threatened to hurt J.J. if they didn’t go with him. They were trapped in a shut-down elevator, but Aaron saved them before the cables holding it up gave way — and she learned his identity, too, by accident!

In Super Battlers 3, right in the middle of their New Year’s celebration, Vivian, the Battlers, and Maurice and Keese’s sister, Monique, were magically transported to Dare Island, an island ruled by a sorcerer named Bin Dare, where she met Shauna Davidson and Diahandra Christian, the Blue and Purple Battlers, and their three travel companions — Derrick, Jamal, and Felicia — for the first time. Just after that, though, they all met up with the Battlers’ ultimate enemies. This was because Dare was going to challenge them to a tournament in which they’d fight their ultimate enemies in battles to the death. Winners got to live, but losers got eaten — and there would be no chance to escape, because Dare was shielding their stomachs with his magic.

When Dare magically split up the thirteen teenagers, Vivian found herself split up with Jon instead of the one she hoped to be split up with — Maurice. While spelunking through a cave, they met up with Jon’s ultimate enemy, Polar Tundros (aka “Gamester”). Instead of actually battling, Gamester forced them to play one of his games — Swing or Surrender. If she or Jon didn’t swing from rope to rope until they got to a podium at the end of the course before Gamester caught them, they’d automatically lose. Close to the end of it, Vivian was nearly caught. But Jon sacrificed himself to let Vivian win by getting himself caught, instead. So Gamester ate Jon and let Vivian go. Vivian was crushed about it, and she and Aaron, whom she met in the cave after his fight with Goril Primus, found the others and learned that Keese and Felicia had also lost their fights and had been eaten by, respectively, Chief Manhunter, Keese’s ultimate enemy, and Fenrir Lupus, Maurice’s ultimate enemy. They fought Dare in the final battle after all three of the losers turned up safe, and after defeating him, and learning that he’d just brought them there for his entertainment, he sent them all back home again. So Vivian and the others got to celebrate New Year’s in peace.

Vivian appeared just briefly in Book 32. She had a lovely night of passion with Maurice (off-page) at Philip’s sleepover that was revealed in Book 33. It was also revealed that Vivian had become pregnant as a result of that night, despite the precautions they’d taken ahead of time. Her parents were furious when they found out (at Maurice, not her) and her father tried to strangle Maurice to death. But he was forced to wait when Les B. Ian, who was working for her father to kill Maurice, Deyon, and J.J., attacked Maurice’s house with gunfire. But later on, her father did get Maurice when he injected him with a coma-inducing drug.

In Book 35, while on her way to a prenatal checkup, Vivian began to have doubts about her father being the kind, innocent man she always thought he was when he had a heated confrontation with Regina Rountree, J.J. and Aaron’s mother, concerning J.J.’s mysterious disappearance. In Book 36, her doubts were confirmed when she stumbled upon J.J., who was being held prisoner in a secret panic room in her father’s home office. Just as she was about to free him, her father came in and saw her and quickly kissed her. The effects from his kiss caused her to collapse and temporarily forget seeing J.J. But she remembered when she woke up in the hospital, alerted Aaron, who was in the hospital after a hit-and-run by her father (which she didn’t know about), and cut her father out of her life. She decided to move out of the DiCapa mansion and take up residence with one of the Battlers’ families.

In Book 40, Vivian, her brother, Philip, and her mother, Susan, were in attendance for the big reveal of the Black Crystal Battlers’ true identities on the roof of the DiCapa Enterprises Office Building. Her father was going to reveal them himself after kidnapping and bringing five of them — Maurice, Aaron, Jon, Shauna, and Diahandra — to the building. Vivian also got to watch Liam capture J.J. and Keese when they got there with Deyon to save their friends. She felt horrible that she couldn’t do anything to help them without showing her father that she was one of the Battlers’ allies. Even worse, she had to watch the final fight break out between her father and Deyon. She was one of the many people (including the Battlers) rooting for Liam’s defeat. But a victory for her father seemed imminent when, after Deyon’s Battler Crystal powered down on him, Liam shot him eight times. But Deyon came right back with a Crystal Advance, which transformed his Battler Crystal into a Battler Emerald. Then, Deyon was easily able to defeat Liam.

Vivian suffered the biggest tragedy of her life, however, when Deyon was about to strike a fatal blow to her father that her mother, out of loyalty to her husband, jumped in the way and took instead. As soon as she died, Vivian learned the horrid truth about her father as Liam went on a tirade, spewing the truth about his past crimes and wishing that he’d committed them on the Battlers. Unfortunately, the press (which mostly consisted of disguised UNITY members) got it all on camera. And then came the bigger tragedy — in an attempt to stick to his original plan of unmasking the Battlers on live television, Liam tried hard to unmask Deyon right there. But Deyon pulled away from him so hard, it sent Liam stumbling over the edge of the roof, and he plummeted thirty stories to his death. Vivian and Philip would then have to adjust to the horrible reality that both of their parents had died that very night, and they were now orphans.

Vivian was on the tail end of picking up the pieces when Book 41 rolled around. She was paid a visit by Maurice, who spent a little time bonding with her and their baby. They spent some time preparing to become teenage parents after Maurice sealed Dugdug, his new gopher, inside of his Battler Subterranean Lance in order to get into the Tournament of Wonder. After the first round of the tournament was over the next night, Maurice invited Vivian to join him and the other Battlers for pizza and ice cream in the park to celebrate all eight Battlers progressing to the second round.

But Chief Manhunter, his new cohort, Castoro “Cast” Dammon, and nineteen other Killer Beavers showed up in the park, and Chief Manhunter made his plans for them plain and simple. He’d stolen and swallowed a jewel called the Stone of Absor and was going to use it, now that it was in his bowels, to gain more power and defeat the Battlers. But the only to gain power using the stone . . . was to eat the Battlers. So after a battle broke out, Maurice hid Vivian somewhere safe while he and the Battlers fought. But the hormones from her pregnancy acted up and Vivian found herself wanting to be with Maurice. She made her way to him, but when she got close, Chief Manhunter grabbed her and kidnapped her, intending to imprison her long enough to let her give birth, and then eat her and her baby! But Maurice, after undergoing the Crystal Advance, saved her and drove Chief Manhunter off.

After Vivian was safely returned home, she was given yet another surprise, but this time, a happy one. Her older brother, Desmond, had come to visit her from college. Introducing Desmond to Maurice as her brother shocked him beyond belief.

In Book 44, Vivian was getting close to her due date, and she was having a pleasant evening in the park with Maurice when their peace was suddenly destroyed — Goril Primus had escaped from UNITY and was out to capture Aaron, who was in the park with his girlfriend, Juliet Kwarteng, at the time. Worse yet, Fenrir Lupus, Maurice’s ultimate enemy, was also back and had devouring Maurice on his mind. At Maurice and Aaron’s orders, Juliet got Vivian out of the park and let the boys fight it out with their ultimate enemies.

Their boyfriends survived their separate battles long enough for Vivian to hear about them the next day at the Tournament of Wonder. Aaron, unfortunately, lost his match that day. The day after that, Vivian watched as Maurice lost his battle, as well. She heard about Aaron’s troubles with Juliet’s brother, William, and instantly sympathize. Then, later on, William called Aaron up to the park a short while later and he asked him to bring Maurice with him. So Aaron went up to the park near his house to see William with Vivian, Maurice, and Juliet in tow. Unfortunately, it turned out that William was working for Fenrir and Goril in hopes of getting Aaron away from Juliet, and it was revealed almost immediately after Juliet talked to her brother. But it was too late to do anything about it — Fenrir and Goril (who were now known as the Power Pair) had kidnapped Aaron while Vivian, Maurice, and Juliet weren’t looking. Maurice quickly followed when he was kidnapped in Vivian and Juliet’s sight.

The girls immediately rose to the challenge as Juliet instantly put her UNITY agent skills to use, tracking Maurice and Aaron down using the chips in their necks. Then, after Juliet called Jon to help out, the girls followed the signal to a cave in a forest outside of Alexandria. Juliet went in without Vivian, leaving her outside because of her late-stage pregnancy. She ran into problems a short time later when stressing out over worrying about Maurice resulted in painful cramps, and her pained cries were heard by nearby werewolves guarding the cave. The werewolves would’ve eaten her had Jon not arrived in time to save her. But just as he was about to go in after Juliet, the werewolves captured both Vivian and Jon, forcing Jon to leave his Battler form to keep Vivian from getting her head chomped off. Vivian and Jon were immediately taken to Fenrir, who ordered for Vivian to be locked up for him to eat later, after she’d given birth to her baby. Meanwhile, he was about to keep Jon to eat on the spot, but he decided to give him to Goril to eat, instead.

Vivian was rescued later by Juliet, who’d escaped from Fenrir and Goril (who were chasing Aaron and Jon at that time). The two girls were about to follow Aaron and Jon when Vivian got a terrible surprise — her water broke. Juliet had to abort the mission and took Vivian to the hospital, where she gave birth to her and Maurice’s son, Maurice IV. Maurice, who’d been freed from Fenrir (he’d swallowed him earlier), arrived with the other Battlers and met their son for the first time, and the proud parents enjoyed their first few moments with their newborn baby, a happy ending to one part of the lives, and the happy beginning of the next part.

Vivian appeared with baby Maury (Maurice IV’s nickname) in Book 45. She first appeared to offer a very confused reaction to Monique’s horrible Veteran’s Day parade float, which was hip-hop-themed. She later appeared in the stadium to watch Shauna lose her battle in the fifth-round of the Tournament of Wonder. She was forced to leave by Juliet, who knew the Battlers were going to discuss something private relating to Chief Manhunter and their plans for them.

In Book 48, Vivian was greatly looking forward to Maury’s upcoming christening, even asking Deyon to be his godfather and Juliet to be his godmother. But that christening almost didn’t happen when various enemies of the Battlers attacked them, and Vivian found herself kidnapped by Fenrir, along with Juliet and Maury. It was thanks to a well-thought-out plan by Deyon that they were able to escape from the clutches of Chief Manhunter, who was planning to eat them and their families for his Christmas dinner.

In Book 49, Vivian was frustrated with Maurice’s lack of involvement in Maury’s life and was adamant that he spend some time with him to bond with him as his father. That idea may not have been safe, as Maury was attacked and magically trapped in a tart by Pastry Pat, a new villain in town. He was saved from being eaten by Pat, thanks to Jon, but it was still a close call. Vivian ended up learning, after Maurice freed Maury from the tart, that sometimes, it was best to choose Maurice’s time with Maury a lot more wisely, considering the dangers that came with Maurice’s life as a Battler.
