Wait Your Tourney
At long last, Shauna
and Diahandra finally get to enter the Tournament of Wonder after months of
training for it. But when Maurice and
the other Battler boys go with them to support them, they end up registered for the tournament, too!
Now, the fact that Deyon, Maurice, Richard, Jay,
Aaron, and Jon
are now in a tournament they didn’t even try
to enter is strange enough. But what is stranger are the things that happen during the tournament. Things that will
all point to one familiar foe. One who has big plans for Maurice
and the other Battlers. . . .
NOTES:
- This
book is narrated by Maurice, the
Silver Battler.
- This book sees the launch
of the Tournament of Wonder, a tournament that lasts from this book to Book
49. Shauna and Diahandra finally enter this tournament — and so do
Deyon, Maurice, Richard, Jay, Aaron, and Jon!
- Deyon, Maurice, Shauna,
and Diahandra all begin college at American
University, a real-life
university in Washington,
D.C., in this book.
- This book kicks off a
brand-new saga — the “Advance to the Emerald” saga.
- Chief
Manhunter, a long-time recurring villain, takes the reins as the
series’s main villain for the foreseeable future in this book.
- This book marks the
debuts of Desmond
DiCapa, the oldest child of Liam
and Susan
DiCapa, and Castoro
“Cast” Dammon, one of the strongest Killer Beaver warriors, the
champion of the Killer Beavers, and Chief Manhunter’s new cohort.
- This is Richard and Jay’s
first full book as Battlers.
- Richard
and Jay learn about their
Villager Powers in this book — and find out that they, like their Battler
powers, were transferred over to them from J.J.
and Keese.
- Shauna
(off-page) learns Ice of Diffusion, a spell last seen when it was
introduced in Book
22.
- Diahandra (off-page) learns
Petal Pound, a spell introduced in this book.
- Maurice
seals a new Battler Animal — a gopher he names Dugdug!
- Maurice
undergoes his Crystal
Advance!
- Maurice learns Entomb
as a result of the Crystal Advance!
- Three characters in
this book are named for reality TV stars. Millie
and Chuck (the Enchantia Museum
of Magical History curator, who is eaten by Chief Manhunter in the
prologue, and her husband) are named after contestants from The Amazing Race 4. Millie and Chuck
were the team of virgins who had dated for twelve years and were the
eighth team eliminated. Wes
Moss (the thunder mage who
battled Richard in the first
round of the tournament) is named after the twelfth candidate fired from The Apprentice 2. Wes was fired for losing twice as a Project Manager
and for being unable to lead the uncontrollable Maria Boren,
with whom he was fired in the show’s first-ever double firing.
- Although they do not
appear in this book, Derrick,
Jamal, and Felicia also enter the
tournament.
- This book was
originally supposed to mark the first showdowns between Richard and
Coonskin, and Jay and Bully Frog, but because of the length of the book,
plans for both showdowns were scrapped until later books.
