Cast Blast
Jon
is sent to the New
Killer Beaver
Village on a
reconnaissance mission to investigate what Chief Manhunter is up to. He finds
shocking proof that Chief Manhunter isn’t trying to eat them for their Battler
Crystals. He is after their Battler Emeralds.
Jon
and the other Battlers know full well that they can only obtain their Battler
Emeralds through fierce combat, so Jon,
Shauna, and Diahandra, opt to lay off
the fighting until they can think of a better plan. Unfortunately for Jon, Chief Manhunter’s strongest warrior, Cast, is
constantly attacking him to make sure he does
fight. And he’ll make sure he does at any cost. . . .
NOTES:
- This
book is narrated by Jon, the Red
Battler.
- This
is the first book Cast features prominently in since his introduction in Book
41.
- Oriana
makes a surprise visit to the present due to a Chronos transfero spell!
- The
Battlers finally realize what Chief Manhunter’s true plan is — to coax
them into going through the Crystal Advance
so he can eat them and their
Battler Emeralds!
- Jon
meets his love interest — Monique
Eazel!
- Jon
finally gets his own Villager Power — the spectral power, which enables
him to go through walls and ceilings like a ghost. He can trigger that
power by clapping his hands twice. This power was inspired by two things: Josh Baldwin,
the temporary White Blaster Beetleborg on Big, Bad Beetleborgs, who, while he was a Beetleborg, could
turn invisible by dusting his hands off, and Kitty Pride, known to X-Men: Evolution fans as Shadowcat,
whose mutant power enabled her to phase through walls and ceilings.
- Jon
undergoes his Crystal
Advance!
- Jon
learns two new spells — Inferno (which he uses on-page) and Lava Beam
(which he does not use on-page).
- The
dialogue between Maurice and Jon over Monique’s
float was adopted from a scene between the characters Linda and Lauren
in an episode of the now-canceled CBS sitcom Still Standing, as is Maurice’s
“video camera” parting shot, which is based on Linda’s
parting shot to the character Judy.
- This
book marks the first appearance of Jeremy
Frost, who would later appear again, this time as a villain, in Book
46.
- Oriana’s
Time Twister spell is mentioned for the first time in quite a long time.
- The
characters of Brooke and Stephanie are indeed characters who appear on The
Bold and the Beautiful, the soap opera Oriana takes to in this book.
- Three
Battlers lose the Tournament of Wonder in this book — Jon (to Deyon), Shauna
(to Jeremy), and Richard (to Diahandra)!
