On Cloud Nine
For
the second time, Richard has been mistaken for his predecessor, J.J., this time
facing an attack by an enemy from J.J. and Aaron’s past that all the other
Battlers never knew about. This sparks an adventure that is literally a
high-flying one, as they take the impending flight to Cloud Nine, a secret
kingdom of birds in the sky.
Now, Richard
and the other Battlers, with help from Juliet and Stephanie, are forced to protect
Cloud Nine and its king from this sly new villain, who is out to take over the
kingdom and rule it himself. But even if they do defeat him, they will have another big surprise waiting for
them. . . .
NOTES:
- This
book is narrated by Richard, the new White Battler.
- This book marks the
first appearance of new villain Vultura
Scavenge, a giant, man-eating vulture. He was first encountered off-page
by J.J. and Aaron during their absence in Book
25. He will be the true ultimate
enemy of Richard, after Carnivore
fell flat due to the threat of a J.J./Predator
redux.
- Richard uses his
Magic Advance for the first time in this book.
- This book introduces King
Peli Canos, a new ally of the Battlers. It also marks the third
appearance of Avio
Swan, who previously appeared in Books 43 and 45.
- In a shocking twist,
Cast reveals having eaten a second Stone of Absor, which he plans to use
to absorb the Battlers’ powers. He reveals this after turning on Chief
Manhunter by eating him.
- Cast’s quote after
eating Chief Manhunter and stealing his power, seen at the beginning of
chapter thirty-six, is taken from the character of Lord Cedric, who
similarly turned on Phobos in “Y is for Yield,” the penultimate episode of
Disney’s cartoon series W.I.T.C.H.
Aaron and Maurice’s quotes at the beginning of that same chapter are taken
from the characters Hay Lin (Aaron) and Irma (Maurice) close to the
beginning of the final episode, “Z is for Zenith.”
