Misery
Aaron
has been tricked and kidnapped by the Power Pair, his ultimate enemy, Goril
Primus, and Fenrir Lupus, as well as his girlfriend’s brother. And he has been
imprisoned as part of a plan of Goril’s to break him and get rid of him for
good — by physically beating and torturing him, possibly to death.
Aaron knows
very well that escape is necessary if he wants to survive this ordeal, but
every time he tries, Goril foils his plans. So he will have to hope someone
finds him. Because Goril is not just torturing him physically. He’s using a new
spell called the Curse of the Mind to torture him mentally. And this new method
of torture could prove very deadly. . . .
NOTES:
- This book is narrated
by Aaron, the Green Battler.
- Fenrir
Lupus, Maurice’s ultimate enemy, will return after last being seen in Book
48! Goril
Primus also returns after his previous appearance in the same book. William
Kwarteng also returns to help his former bosses.
- Deyon, Maurice,
Richard, Jay, Jon, Shauna, and Diahandra do not appear in this book. Aaron
will be the only Battler to appear in this book. In fact, Aaron, Juliet,
Fenrir, Goril, and William are the only five major characters to appear in
this book. Original White Battler J.J. also appears in flashbacks.
- This book is named
after the movie of the same name starring Kathy Bates, and it conforms to
two major themes of the story — Aaron’s misery from what Goril puts him
through, and his learning of Goril’s own misery from what Liam
DiCapa had put him through. The movie was also one of the two
inspirations for this book, the other being The Illusion, the thirty-third regular title of K.A.
Applegate’s Animorphs series.
- Aaron uses his Magic
Advance for the first time in this book.
- This is the most
daring book ever attempted, as little no battling is featured until near
the end of the book, the majority of the story takes place in one
location, the abandoned animal shelter from Book
36, and the primary focus is on Aaron’s torture as he learns more about Goril’s past.
