The Exchange
It’s getting closer to J.J.’s looming departure every day. And
the fact that he’s going to California
does not bode well for the team. But Oriana’s got a plan — we find him a
replacement we can transfer his magic to. But a magical weapon called the
Exchanger is required for this, and it’s in the realm of Magicia.
Deyon,
Maurice, J.J.,
Aaron, Jon,
Shauna, Diahandra, and I must now head
off to Magicia and find the Exchanger. But when we do, and all is said and
done, it won’t be over. I have a secret that’ll surely change everything. . . .
NOTES:
- This
book is the fourth special edition and is narrated by all eight Battlers.
- The
summary of this book is narrated by Kesse, the Orange Battler. (All Super
Battler summaries are narrated by a Battler.)
- The Battlers visit
the Magic World, Magicia, for the first time.
- The Battlers learn
that not only Deyon will go through the Crystal Advance he went through in
Book 40 — the other Battlers, at different times, will go through Crystal
Advances of their own, and their Battler Crystals will ascend to the
Battler Emerald level just like Deyon’s did.
- The Mutant Guerrillas
return!
- This book serves as a
sort of “rest period” between the previous saga, which just ended in Book
40, and the next saga, which will begin in the not-yet-written Book
41.
- This is J.J.’s final
appearance as the White Battler. He gets Richard
to replace him, thus marking his first appearance as the White Battler.
- This is Kesse’s final
appearance as the Orange Battler — he surprises everyone with the
bombshell that he’ll also be leaving for Los Angeles to attend a high
school with an accelerated learning program as a result of getting a very
high score on an intelligence test and being recommended to skip his
junior year of high school and go straight to his senior year. He asks Jay to replace him, thus making this Jay’s first appearance as the Orange Battler.
- This is also
Manchomper’s final appearance — he leaves because he just can’t bring
himself to be separated from J.J. and thus decides to follow him and Kesse
to L.A. in
hopes of eating him there.
- J.J.
gets eaten three times in this book — by Manchomper, by a Rambling, and by
a fire-breathing dragon!
- Richard’s
addition to the group means Aaron
is no longer the youngest Battler.
- Throughout his run in
the series, J.J. was eaten a
total of nineteen times — eighteen of those times on-page, one of those
times off-page!
- This marks the first
appearance of new Mutant Guerrilla Coonskin,
a mutant raccoon created to replace Manchomper.
- This is the first
special edition to have a prologue and an epilogue, both of which focus
mainly on Chief Manhunter.
- Kesse and Chief
Manhunter finally bring some closure to their feud when Chief Manhunter gives
Kesse some advice on how to tell the other Battlers his secret — and
follows it up with a goodbye taste to sample what might’ve been if he’d
successfully eaten Kesse.
- The Ramblings (the
rope-spewing mountain rams) are based on the web-shooting horses from The Brothers Grimm.
- This is the final
book to feature all eight original Battlers.
